"It’s Not Your Fault"

(Things your dad never only taught you about baseball coaching)

 
Let me just say this right now - “It’s not your fault”................

It’s not your fault that your Dad taught you what he know about the game of baseball, It’s not your fault that your High School teacher was also your baseball coach and science teacher, It’s not your fault you don’t know everything there is to know about coaching your own son or his Little League team. “It’s not your fault” you never played college or even professional baseball or baseball at all. “It’s not your fault” you chose to work in an industry other then professional coaching for a living.

“It’s not your fault” you can only work with your son on weekends or in a little league structured season.

What am trying to say here is; “It’s just not your fault that we know what we know about teaching baseball and what we learned from our dads and others..”

We know what we were taught by our Dads. And because of that we are teaching our kid’s outdated information. The reason why so many Little League players never reach their full potential and why most never get to play at or past the high school level is because they simply get such poor instruction when their young from Little League coaches, volunteer Dads, Club Ball coaches and from so-so private instructors who are doing their best but may know just enough to be dangerous. They teach out-dated training methods which they were taught to them when they played. Some of these club coaches and so-so private instructors even played college and pro baseball. I know it's hard to believe but its true…they never really learned how to teach proper mechanics in anything even though they may have been outstanding Players themselves.

Keep in mind, being able to play at a “high level” doesn't mean you can teach at a high level....any more than being a PGA tour golfer makes you a good golf instructor. (Quiz: Name Tiger Woods swing coach) If you want your son to succeed and have fun playing he must learn correct mechanics right “NOW”. Waiting too long or getting the wrong instruction because you may “Like” the coach could ruin his chances of playing in Jr. High, high school or beyond.....Don't make a financial mistake that you will regret later because you decided to get him hitting lessons to fix bad mechanics when he’s 16 instead of when he was 10. I often ask parents would you rather save for your son’s college education or that beach house for retirement. With good grades and great mechanics there is a chance he can keep playing for FREE past High School and get a great education in the process. Because in the end isn’t that what we really want.
